SEO for small business in Australia, done the way it actually works
Not keywords stuffed into a page and a monthly invoice. The six things that move a small business up Google, done in order, measured every month, with the honest timeline said out loud.
SEO for small business in Australia is mostly local search: someone in your suburb typing what you do and ringing the first business that looks real. Winning that is not a mystery and it is not a trick. It is a short list of jobs done properly, in the right order, and then kept up. We run the same list on our own site, and this page is that list.
If you want the one line version: a complete Google profile with real reviews, one page for each thing people search, a site that loads fast on a phone, a few links from real places, and someone reading the numbers each month and fixing the nearest misses.
The six jobs, in order
What we do for a business that wants to be found
1. Google Business Profile and reviews
For a local service business this is most of the game. We complete the profile properly: category, services, photos, hours, a post every week, and a review link you send every happy customer. Ten real reviews that mention the job and the suburb beat fifty blog posts for "plumber near me".
2. One page per thing people search
A page for each service and each area you genuinely serve, written from what people type, with real prices, your own photos and the phone number at the top. One page per intent, never one page per keyword, and nothing invented.
3. Fast, clean, mobile
Under two seconds on a phone, works on one bar of reception, clean web addresses, structured data so Google can read what you offer, a sitemap it can follow. Every site we build already passes this; an existing site gets a $250 fix if it does not.
4. Links from real places
Your suppliers, your trade association, the local chamber, directories under your exact business name, a guest article now and then. Slow and unglamorous, and the difference between page two and page one on competitive terms. We never buy links.
5. Keep publishing, lightly
One useful article a week answering a question your customers ask. It keeps the site alive in Google's eyes and gives people a reason to trust you before they ring.
6. Measure monthly, fix the nearest misses
Google's own Search Console shows which pages sit at position 11 to 20, one step off page one. Rewriting those is the highest return work in SEO, and it is what the monthly report is for.
What we will not do
The things that get a site penalised
Pages that only swap a keyword
Fifty suburb pages with the same text and a different suburb name. Google calls this scaled content abuse and drops the whole site. Every page we write has something only that page could say.
Bought links and link swaps
They work until they do not, and then the penalty costs more than the links were worth. We only chase links from places your customers actually read.
Keyword stuffing
The search phrase goes in the title, the heading, the address and the first paragraph once each. After that we write for the person reading it.
Promises of number one
Nobody can promise a position. We can promise the work, the numbers every month, and a straight answer if something is not moving.
How long it takes
The honest timeline
Weeks one to four
Profile completed, reviews started, technical fixes live, the page plan written from real searches, the first pages live. Your business name search resolves properly in this window.
Months two and three
Pages indexed and starting to show. The first impressions for service and suburb searches. Links landing. The first monthly report with something to act on.
Months three to six
Page one for local and niche searches is realistic here. The first job that came from search is the measure, not a position number.
What never happens
A single word like "plumber" or "websites" against national brands. We say which searches are winnable before you spend a dollar, and we say which are not.
What it costs
SEO for small business cost
A free search check first. We look at your profile, your site and what people in your area are searching, and tell you plainly where you sit and what would move it. If it is worth doing, you get one monthly price for the work above, in writing, with no lock-in. If your site needs fixing before any of this makes sense, that is the $250 fix or a new site from $500, and we say so rather than selling you a report.
If you are starting from nothing, the cheapest path is usually a new site built for search from day one. See what a website costs in Australia and examples of small business websites that already do this.
